Eric Kessel is a hydrogeologist at Aquanty Inc. He received his BSc (2013) in Hydrogeology in the Department of Earth Sciences and MSc (2016) in the Department of Geography and Environmental Management, both at the University of Waterloo. His MSc thesis focused on the field investigation of salt migration in groundwater from a constructed tailings sand upland to a reclaimed peatland. Eric has experience in both pore-scale and watershed hydrology with knowledge in numerical modeling and landscape reclamation within the Athabasca Oil Sands Region. Eric is a member of Professional Geoscientists Ontario (PGO) since 2021.
What is your role in the C1W project?
As a data scientist I have been responsible for preparing the hydrological datasets for HydroGeoSphere - including digital elevation models and stream networks of Canada. Furthermore, as a hydrogeologist I will assist in the interpretation of our model results and further our understanding of our water resources in Canada.
What benefits do you think C1W will bring to Canada/Canadians?
I am both excited and motivated by the high degree of collaboration among so many large players from NRCAN, the GSC, to us here at Aquanty. This is the way science should be done!
